Juggling drugs, rest, exercise – but never the ironing

Right. That’s it. I’m over this situation. Miracle cure, now. please. I so, so, so feel for those whose health is way worse than mine, because this is bad enough. This week has been my second week on the medication that is hoped to pull my over-active, uninvited, toxic thyroid nodules into line and by yesterday I […]

Australian Partner Visa fee increases AGAIN

I cannot believe the Immigration Department raising the fees for Partner Visas AGAIN! Early last year I wrote an investigative series on the high price of love. Back then the on shore application fee was $4,575. Now the fee is $6,865. That is just for the partner, no application related costs or even children! The […]

Christmas Cabinet Reshuffle a gift to the Australian people

Despairing of the costs to the taxpayer of the disabled and unemployed members of Australian society, Abbott decided it was necessary to take action to ensure by Christmas 2015 the taxpayers would be able to spend more of their hard-earned money on their own families, rather than paying taxes to support the vulnerable in society. […]

Christmas postponed due to drugs

This is for the much appreciated supportive readers who are following my health challenges. Even though we are postponing Christmas, we wish everyone a wonderful and safe festive season with friends and family. We’ve postponed Christmas because I’m just not up to it. I’m also not Radioactive Robyn, as it turns out. Over the last […]

Blanc, Bernardi, visas and free speech

Australia’s police chiefs have cited society’s “vulgar and violent attitudes toward women” as a primary cause of the nation’s high level of domestic violence. Changing men’s behaviour is seen as the ONLY way to address the problem. Tasmania’s commissioner, Darren Hine, said cultural change can begin with society’s influencers – sportsmen, businessman, actors and other […]

Leaving Islam – the greatest jihad?

by Aisha Ashraf   The news is full of muslim converts striking out for Syria to answer the IS call to jihad, but what about those who no longer feel connected to Islam? In a religion inconsistent with science, logic, human rights and ethics, one so riddled with contradiction it offers equal endorsement of opposing arguments, rational-minded […]

I claimed asylum before passport control not after

This experience came to my attention today. I am publishing with the permission of the writer. I have made some minor grammar and spelling corrections as requested by the writer. I came in Australia in August 2012 with a visa which I received from Australian embassy in Moscow however I’m considered as an illegal arrival […]

Grattan on Friday: Tony, pick up the phone to Barack on Ebola

By Michelle Grattan, University of Canberra Here’s a thought for Tony Abbott. Why doesn’t he ring up Barack Obama and David Cameron and ask them to help remove the impediment that’s apparently stopping the Australian government providing assistance on the ground for the West African Ebola crisis? If it is really beyond the wit of […]

Jones felt burning heat and fierce throbbing

Continued from Pain.  If you have just joined this story and wish to start from the beginning, go to What goes around comes around. Some semblance of quiet settled over the tent. The baby was quiet now and the soft murmur of the women’s voices hung in the air as a reminder of the cycle of life. It […]

Support or not? Australians donning the Hijab

Given the terrible actions against innocent Muslims in our community of late, I joined a social media group of everyday Australians supporting our Muslim brothers and sisters. Through my participation in this group I became aware of the #WISH campaign, Women in Solidarity with Hijabis.
