The old and the new

by Team Oyeniyi

I went out late in the afternoon to check on my buds.  Just as well I did, for there is blossoming under way!  We first met these in their babyhood and teenage stage.  Now, merely a couple of days later, the buds are opening.  The teenage photo was take Friday morning, the one below taken late Sunday afternoon.

First Blossoming

The first buds are blossoming finally

In many of streets around here, this is the colour we see.

Blossoms lining the street

These beautiful pink blossoms line the streets around us

There are also signs of the old around us. This old log will never live again, yet gives life.

Old Log

Old logs lie dormant despite spring approaching

Dandelions remind us of the shortness of the life of a flower.  There is something so perfect about this dandelion head, a globe waiting to shatter into life.

Dandelion

New becomes old rapidly, yet gives life

Yet other plants, although recognising the change of seasons, are not yet ready to flower.  The new green is so fresh against the deeper green of last season’s growth.

Fresh growth

All around us, fresh growth is evident

So am I. We just got our gas bill from the old house. $424 thanks very much. And I fear this place is more expensive to heat.

Old logs can grow new sticks! We’re heading for autumn in the UK! It’s great to think that it’s spring like somewhere on planet earth. Perhaps when we were hunter gatherers we traveled to follow the natural cycle of the earth and have the best of times; us going around the earth, orbiting seasons. Now it seems in the modern world humans have become fixed and let the earth revolve around them. ‘Inch worm…’ comes to mind too at this point.

We did follow food at least in our hunter gatherer days – perhaps whole seasons were a little distant. We have become very fixed though, haven’t we? Not just geographically, either……

The pink flowers are beautiful. Any idea what they are?

No idea at all, Carole, but the trees line all our streets in this locality. They are not fruit trees, that much I do know.

Thank you Barb! They really were just very rushed snaps I took. I just thought I’d check on the buds and notic ed activity and so snapped away and got a few other shots around the house at the same time.
