We are MOVED

by Team Oyeniyi

I am sure none of our regular readers expected to hear much from us the last few days.  We started on Thursday night and as I type it is 10pm Sunday and we still aren’t finished!!  We are getting there.

The oven has NOT been fixed, which is a real pain in the you-know-where for a family of six.  Not only that, the dishwasher, so desired by the boys, flooded the kitchen floor when I gave it a trial run.  Great.  So we are waiting for repairs.

As we moved a whole 2 kms (1.2 miles for USA readers) we decided to do this ourselves.  We really couldn’t afford the luxury of a removalist this time around.  We borrowed a small truck, one that I could drive with a car licence.  Really not so small, but also too small for us to do this in one trip.  I think we had about five trips all up. I swear we will not be doing this again.

As I have to be up in the morning before the crack of dawn to return the truck, this is a very short update!

Here is a smile that I think encapsulates the feelings about the move.

Smiling

Miss O 2 is quite happy with it all.

Not to say there weren’t some frayed tempers: there were! But we got there.

More to follow.

I’m backtracking saved entries of my favourite blogs and so I know that you have a bad back and are more settled when I read this. Conversely you’re moved, but in better physical and emotional state when I read this, but have yet to sort things out! Still good reading and an unfolding story that I’ve been following for ages! You are my weekly story fix and that is what makes your blog compulsive reading.

Lovely picture of Miss O 2. Contented children like these make it all worth it. Bit by bit you’ll enjoy your new home more and more. Every bit of improvement is going to make you feel proud. Wishing you and your husband and all the children lots of happiness in your new home!

  7. Just think, once you are finally settled in, you can relax knowing you will not have to move again any time soon. Make it a comforting thought.

Very true, Paul. Next time we will definitely use professional removalists. I always have in the past, but with the budget as tight as it is, and the fact we were moving a whole 2 kms, we did it ourselves, but it was a real struggle. I wouldn’t do it this way again!

I slept better last night that the first night. The heating unit is on the other side of our bedroom wall, so I have to get used to the slight noise during the night.

“Real soon” might be asking a bit much – we expect it is going to take us about three weeks to REALLY get settled. We need a wardrobe for the boys and the girls need new beds, desperately! Our old house had HEAPS of built in wardrobes and storage cupboards. This house is very light on in that respect.

Thank you Jan! New place still looks like a bomb has hit it, but that is to me expected when moving 6 people.
