Movie night – Prometheus
Mr O and I finally went to a movie together! A night out was in order to celebrate permanent residency! We looked at a few trailers on the computer and decided to see Prometheus. It only had 2.5 stars, a bit of a worry, but most of the other movies were really kids or family movies given it is the school holidays. Mr O had already seen Men in Black with the boys. I even resorted to Twitter to see if anyone was willing to give an opinion: no takers. Seems I don’t have sci-fi followers!
We took the train into the city as there was an Essendon game on last night and I wanted to avoid two things: hunting for a car park and driving after a few drinks. We saw a guy get booked for fare evasion on the train! That is a $180 fine, so I am guessing that rather spoilt his night.
It was COLD. The night before had been the coldest night in Melbourne for years and last night was no different. Again we saw young girls out and about in what could best be described as summer nighties. They must have been FREEZING! I wore a jacket, even though the dress really isn’t a jacket sort of dress. Mr O was cold even in his jacket.
We saw the 3D version which was quite good except for the last scene. I’m sorry, I didn’t get it. I understood the penultimate scene, but that last one just threw me.
Mr O was giggling about my having to wear the 3D glasses over my own glasses. “Maybe that is why they are so big”, he suggested. He may be right, I’d never thought about it!
I liked the movie, but the opening scene was never really explained, although I can hazard a guess. That closing scene just left me flummoxed.
We came out of the movie and Mr O was starving. Maybe the scary bits in the movie meant he used up all his dinner, I don’t know! We stopped for a quick KFC snack for him, as I wasn’t hungry!
We had drinks and dancing in a nightclub and then headed home. To find certain young people were NOT in bed. Well, they tried to pretend they were, but there was too much evidence – like the light on in the front bedroom as we drove up the driveway and the electric jug still HOT (not warm, HOT) from filling hot water bottles. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Long discussions about trust ensued and punishment has been negotiated. Kids will be kids!
Mr O thought we had lost the camera this morning, but we did locate it. I think we need a new one. The flash is not very powerful and in a photo of us together taken before we left I look multi-coloured and as if I have lipstick on my teeth, which I very definitely didn’t as it is the paint on kind!
Would I recommend seeing Prometheus? I enjoyed it. It is certainly a tad scary in parts, but really there was just something off about that ending. Charlize Theron was great ice queen but she is not the main attraction in this movie. The make-up department could have done a better job on her father too – he just looked FAKE! There were a few attempts at humour in the movie but they didn’t seem to fit. The exchange between Ice Queen and Captain fell flat in my opinion and the geologist really was just odd!
Overall? Had the potential to be a GREAT movie, but just doesn’t quite make it.
If you have seen Prometheus, what did you think?

Saw it in 3D too, and it was pretty haphazard. The problem to me was that Ridley Scott couldn’t decide if it was a horror movie or one about wonder and amazement. You can’t really combine “Alien” with “2001″.
That’s a good point – I didn’t think of it that way at all Mikey, but now you say it – you are right! There was just a disconnect in focus!
Congratulations on residency… what a fabulous milestone! Mr. O always looks so nice and dressed up! You too of course! I’m sure that’s because those are the pics that I see on this blog. But so many of us are content going out these days in jeans and t-shirts… good for both of you for taking the initiative dress up for a night out!
I did write about the cultural differences around dressing once. I’m not sure were that article is, I’ll look for it! Mr O does think we are dreadfully casual! When I originally came here I had about 10 evening dresses. Never wore them! Australia is a very casual lifestyle. Mr O and I do tend to dress up more, simply because of the cultural influence.
I found it! http://teamoyeniyi.com/2011/12/17/interview-with-mr-o/ shows the differences in traditional style!
Now THAT’s what I call a social activity!
I’m waiting for the BluRay. Sounds like you had a fun night except for those naughty children.
Now, as we both know: what would life be without naughty children! I’ve just finished drawing up a chores roster for next week. School holidays here still and we ARE gearing up to move, after all!
