X-Factor Australia
Showcasing a little Aussie talent! We haven’t done that for a while but at the moment X-Factor Australia is reaching the final weeks. We are now down to the final five! We have been watching this as a family, which is a bit of a problem as Miss O 2 gets to bed a little after her bedtime on a school night. There are some great young singers this year and all of us, Mum and Dad included, have our favourites. Dad was not at all happy when Young Men Society left the show. Mum has a soft spot for Johnny Ruffo, Miss O 1 liked Mitchell Callaway and Mr O Jnr 1 has been a Reece Mastin fan from the moment he “kissed and girl and I liked it”.
Tonight two other young stars of Australia sang a duet in a guess spot. While that duet has not yet hit YouTube (I am sure it will!) here are these two wonderful young people singing a duet on Dancing with the Stars. Stan Walker and Jessica Mauboy are both Australian Idol alumni and I am a fan of them both in their solo careers. I’ve actually met Stan (my one claim to celebrity connections) and he is the sweetest guy. I was at his concert in October last year when I cried due to the song “Wind beneath my wings”.
Watching young Australians their own age compete is a great way of seeing what is possible here and the kids are loving it! It is about the only TV we ALL watch together but we are all unable to miss a show! This year the talent is amazing. I have two young ladies dead keen to audition next year, but one will have to wait a few years!
Please enjoy two of Australia’s brightest stars! Stan is likely to have stern words to say if I do not point out he is a Mozzie – Maori Aussie!

I think it’s so cool that you guys get to watch this together as a family. I get all high and mighty about limiting the kids’ TV time, but sometimes I think if I didn’t work nights, we could do something like this together and it would be fun.
It is great fun. I’m not a “reality show” fan by any means, but something like this supports and exposes young (and not so young) talent so I don’t see it in quite the same light as things like that awful Big Brother show!
Limiting TV time isn’t the problem in our house – it is limiting Facebook time that is the problem – do you have any suggestions for that? I keep hoping the novelty will wear off, but it never seems to!!!
If you’re using a Mac with Snow Leopard OS or later, the parental controls are vast and you can totally limit it that way. But if they’re doing it on their i-phones, you may have to look in to something with your cell phone company. I’m always choosing battles and this one just doesn’t come up as often anymore. I lost my will to fight it out.
We are a Windows house, except for the iPhones, which go through the home wi-fi. I could ban that, but banning seems a little draconian. I’d rather encourage responsible use! Like you, I prefer to choose my battles and I do believe rewarding desired behaviour (good marks) will, longer term, be a better strategy!
Note to Mr O Jnr 1 and Miss O1 (who I know will probably read this): TAKE NOTE!
nice!
Glad you’re enjoying time together as a family.
Beautiful…
I think they are both great! Check Jessica out on YouTube or her site – you might be surprised who she has already sung with that you might know!!
