Admin note to Email Subscribers
There seems to be an issue with subscribing by email to this page. 26 or more subscribers seem to be “stuck” part way through the process. WordPress support are looking at the issue now.
If you are one of them, I am sorry and please be patient. If you are willing to email support@wordpress.com with your subscription details you may be able to assist their troubleshooting.

Well, the strange numbers have disappeared. Eliz, so I assume WordPress got it sorted. I also assume from the fact I don’t seem to have 26 new email subscribers that my suspicion it may be a new sort of spam was in fact correct.
I haven’t heard anything official from WP yet, but if I do, I’ll let you know!

Hmmmmmmmm – interesting – I am wondering if it is a new form of spam. I’ve sent Support a link to this so they can see who else is affected. Starting to look rather widespread.

the stats on my email subscribers have shot up over the last day, but I know whis is not correct as I am notified by email when someone subscribes to my blog. How strange and well spotted!
Will have to keep an eye on this. Maybe print of our subscribers just in case we lose the lot!
Not that I don’t trust computers…

hmm this is strange. My other blog also shows 26 email suscribers but then if I click the email stats, it shows nothing at all. I wonder if we are having a similar problem?
