Bits & pieces everywhere!
I have really started getting things for my family’s arrival. I’ll be devastated if the visa isn’t granted, as I will have to sell my purchases again! So fingers are crossed in every direction at the moment. The problem is, as soon as we get the visa, I want them on a plane. Consequently we don’t have the luxury of a month of “arrival preparation”. I’ve had to take the risk. Damn if I do and we don’t get the visa, damned if I don’t and we do get the visa!
I was lucky enough to win an eBay auction for some really nice bunks for the boys. While I have always said I’d never use eBay, necessity is the mother of invention as they say. With the additional airfare cost, plus the fact bunks are only while we stay in my current home (the second bedroom is really meant for only one bed), I did not want to spend up big on new bunks if I could avoid it.
Now I have to find a way to collect the bunks from Rye (70 kms away) and beg, borrow or steal some manpower for the heavy lifting!
Doing stuff alone is not that easy. I have been doing stuff alone for years – but it was all just for me, so it wasn’t so complicated. Now I am finding I really need my husband around to help with all this, but of course he isn’t here!
Do not even know if these come apart – I hope they do, I still have to find that out. My home has front steps up to the front door, that is going to be difficult to negotiate.
One step at a time! Speak to the seller first! Get the details!
Which son will get the top bunk? I suggested tossing a coin but culturally the eldest gets the first choice. I don’t mind as long as there is no fighting!
Later in the Day
I have relocated my study to a corner of the dining room. Just as well I have a large dining room, as I have my dining table on full extension. Found out the phone plug I was planning on using doesn’t work, so will now need a longer extension to reach the one that does. At the moment I have a phone cable strung across to the kitchen!
Still have to move the printer and the filing cabinet. Not quite sure where to locate those.
Am half-way through washing the tiles, then have to tackle the carpets – although I seriously doubt those will get done, having moved all the study furniture on my own. Just as well I am strong! My clothes horse is standing in the middle of the lounge and my coffee table is awry due to relocating the desk! Looks like a mad woman has been through the house.
One stupid airline that shall remain nameless has informed me I can’t buy tickets in Australia for departure from my husband’s location. Unbelievable. I do that sort of thing all the time when I travel, but not there, it seems. Actually, I did it when I went to Africa – just not that particular airline. It is a pity – they are the cheapest. Call to their head office tomorrow is needed, I think!
Having a coffee, hoping I don’t fall asleep. My back is killing me. I’m too old for this!
